The Ohio State football program has a bevy of quarterbacks on the roster. They have five scholarship quarterbacks right now. Only one quarterback gets to play at a time. The starter this year will likely be Will Howard after he transferred in from Kansas State. All of the other quarterbacks have ambitions of starting in 2025 though.

One quarterback in particular impressed everyone during the Spring Game. That was true freshman Air Noland. Noland showed his ability to create plays with his legs during those limited reps. His ability to lead the team down the field and get touchdowns was also something impressive that the other quarterbacks didn’t show.

Which Ohio State football players will be out of luck at quarterback?

Noland isn’t going to play much in 2024. Neither is Julian Sayin or Lincoln Kienholz. The only one who still has a shot to win the starting job other than Howard is Devin Brown. Even his chances to start are low considering how poorly he played against Missouri in the Cotten Bowl. Howard also didn’t transfer in to just sit on the bench.

Sayin and Noland have a great opportunity to start in 2025 depending on how well they play in the Spring and in practice this season. Those two will likely be the favorites to land the job. Kienholz will likely transfer. Brown could too considering it would be the third straight season that he’s battling for the starting job.

Ohio State has other options if for some reason Kienholz and Brown do decide to transfer out in the future. Of course, we are not at that point yet. Fall camp hasn’t even started yet so the coaches are just going off of what they’ve seen this Spring from he freshmen. Both Brown and Kienholz have more of a portfolio for the Buckeyes to look at.
