The Ohio State basketball team has been in search of a backup big for a while. Ever since both Zed Key and Felix Okpara left the program via the transfer portal, the Buckeyes have been looking for depth at center. Aaron Bradshaw, the new transfer from Kentucky, is now going to be the starter. They have been looking for someone to back him up.

Ohio State had hosted a couple of forwards on visits to try to fill that void. It looks like one of them has decided to commit and solve the big man issue. Sean Stewart, a forward who is transferring from Duke, has decided to commit to the Ohio State basketball program for next season.

Stewart was one of the players whom the Buckeyes hosted for a visit recently. He stands at just 6’9, so he’s going to be a smaller backup big. He played just over eight minutes a game for the Blue Devils last season and is looking for more playing time. He’ll get it now that he has decided to sign with the Buckeyes.

Jake Diebler has done a fine job this offseason navigating the transfer portal. He has done a good job of landing players who will help fill the holes that the roster has. He now has pretty much filled out his roster for next season, although he still has one more scholarship spot available if he wants it. We’ll see if they get another guard in the portal to take that up.

The Buckeyes needed some help at forward and at center. Diebler addressed both of those needs. Now, we just have to see how the new roster all fits together. In college basketball, rosters are remade every year. Chemistry is not a priority anymore, so the Buckeyes are just trying to put the best roster together possible.

Stewart will give the Buckeyes an athletic big who can eat up minutes. That’s exactly what they needed.
