The Ohio State basketball program is in need of a backup center. Now that Felix Okpara has changed his mind and transferred to Tennessee, they don’t have many options. Zed Key is now in Dayton. All they have are new transfer Aaron Bradshaw and Austin Parks. Bradshaw is likely the starter at that position now.

Jake Diebler is trying to find someone in the transfer portal to take that role. They’ve struck out in the portal recently with a couple of forwards, but they won’t be deterred. The Buckeyes are hosting a forward and a center who could potentially take those backup center minutes that Diebler needs to fill.

Ohio State basketball program hosting Sean Stewart and Tobe Awaka

One of the players the Buckeyes are hosting is Sean Stewart. Stewart is a 6’9 forward who entered the portal after just one year at Duke. He is a former four-star recruit from Florida. He was a backup at Duke, scoring just 2.6 points per game while playing only 8.4 minutes a game. Stewart would fill that role of backing up Bradshaw.

The other player the Buckeyes are hosting is Tobe Awaka. He is a 6’8 backup forward/center who played each of the last two seasons with Tennessee. He averaged 5.1 points per game a year ago for the Volunteers. He’s looking for more playing time for his final two seasons of eligibility. Awaka would likely play more than 13 minutes a game for the Buckeyes. but not that much more.

Either of these two guys would be really nice to get for the Ohio State basketball team. It would give them some experience behind Bradshaw. That’s what the Buckeyes need to round out their roster. Diebler’s squad should be much better than it was last season when Chris Holtmann coached the team for the first half of the season.

This team has NCAA Tournament aspirations next season. That should be the expectation.
