The Ohio State basketball team is still trying to get its roster together using the transfer portal. They have lost five total members from last year’s roster to the portal. While they have gotten three more in the transfer portal to replace those who have been lost, they still need another center. They are also looking for an experienced forward too.

Ohio State was hoping to get one of the top mid-major transfer portal prospects today. They were trying to get Trey Townsend, a transfer forward from Oakland. He was one of the key members of the team that beat Kentucky in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. He had a final three of Ohio State, Michigan, and Arizona.

Trey Townsend decides against the Ohio State basketball team

Townsend has made his decision. He has committed to Arizona, deciding against playing for the Ohio State basketball program. The good news is that he also decided against going to Michigan. Losing him to them would have been a tough pill to swallow, especially since Roddy Gayle decided to head to Michigan already.

For Jake Diebler, it’s back to the transfer portal. The number-one priority for him is another center now that Felix Okpara has committed to Tennessee. There was clear tampering in that case, but there’s no use crying about it. Every program seems to be doing it. If the rules aren’t going to be enforced, there’s no use in saying other programs are cheating.

Diebler needs to get an experienced center and one more guy who can shoot threes. Once he does that, the Buckeyes will be in a good spot for next season. Diebler has done a pretty solid job this offseason in the portal. We know he can coach on the floor too. Now, it’s about putting it all together to gather more wins.

We’ll keep you up to date on who the Ohio State basketball program is able to grab.
