The Ohio State football team lost a couple of players right before the transfer portal closed on Tuesday. Yet, they haven’t lost a starter to the portal. The Spring window didn’t see them add anyone either. In fact, it was pretty quiet for them as far as impact players are concerned, but they did lose a receiver on Tuesday evening.

Ohio State lost Kyion Grayes to the transfer portal. The receiver was a former four-star recruit in the 2022 recruiting class. He only appeared in one game for the Buckeyes. That came back in 2022 against Toledo. He recorded his only stat in his Ohio State football career, catching one pass for just two yards.

Grayes saw that there wasn’t much of a path to playing time with the Buckeyes over the next couple of years. That’s understandable when you look down the roster. Emeka Egbuka, Carnell Tate, Brandon Inniss, Jeremiah Smith, Jayden Ballard, and Mylan Graham are all ahead of him on the depth chart.

As for where Grayes could land, that’s yet to be known. He’s good enough to play for a Power 4 program. He practiced against one of the best defenses in college football and was pushed by the best receiver room in the country. That’s valuable for another program to have. Grayes can still contribute to a good team.

For Ohio State, this is not a big loss for them. As mentioned before, their depth chart is just fine at that position. Brian Hartline is also ready to replenish the room every single year with his elite recruiting. If there’s one group that the Buckeyes never have to worry about, it’s that one.

Grayes is good enough to succeed. We’ll see where the next chapter of his college football journey gets started in the coming days.
