The Ohio State football program has plenty of legendary players that have come through its doors. The Buckeyes have the most first-round picks in NFL history and have won eight national championships. They are also known for having the only two-time Heisman Trophy winner play for them in running back Archie Griffin.

Griffin won back-to-back Heisman Trophies in 1974-1975 and is considered one of the greatest college football players in history. No one has come close to winning two Heismans like he has. Now, Griffin is getting an honor not just from Ohio State, but from one of the most prestigious bowl games in the country.

The Buckeye great is getting a statue outside of the Rose Bowl. He is one of the greatest players to ever play in that game and even finished off the 1973 season winning that game and winning a national championship by one poling system, even though the Buckeyes don’t claim that title. He’s the only player to ever start in four Rose Bowls.

I think people forget just how dominant Griffin was as a college football player. College football has been going on for 150 years and Griffin is still the only person to do that. He’s still the only person to win two Heismans. Everyone around the Ohio State football program knows how great he is. It’s nice to see the rest of the country will get reminded.

If I’m ever able to go out to the Rose Bowl, I’m definitely going to check out this statue once it’s completed. In my mind, he is still the greatest college football player ever. Tim Tebow is close, but he wasn’t the best player in the country for multiple seasons in a row like Griffin was. That’s what breaks the tie for me.

The statue will be unveiled in August. It will just be the fifth statue at the Rose Bowl.
