There is no secret that college football is all about money. That’s why so many teams have been changing conferences over the last decade or so. Programs are chasing the most money. Thankfully, Ohio State hasn’t needed to change conferences. They are one of the programs that are in charge of making decisions because they hold so much power.

News has come out that the Big 12 is considering taking some private equity money to put into the conference. If they did that, they might have to change the name of their conference. Conference USA is considering something like that as well. Could the Big Ten be one of the conferences that does that next?

Could Ohio State end up playing in a sponsored Big Ten Conference?

The Big Ten just signed a big TV deal that is fully coming into fruition this season. The Buckeyes are one of the reasons why that deal was worth so much. Could the Big Ten dabble in some of this private equity money? Could there be a day that Ohio State ends up playing in a conference that is sponsored?

It seems unlikely. The Big Ten is one of the two conferences that has the most money. Both the Big Ten and the SEC have the most money and everyone else is trying to catch up to them. They don’t need the influence of private equity money. They have no need for someone to come in and give them even more money.

Ohio State won’t have to deal with that. They also make more money than any other football program. It’ll be interesting to see if the Big 12, Conference USA, or any other conference decides to take some money. It would be kind of funny to see some conference named after a life insurance company or something.
