Former Ohio State basketball player Mike Conley is the only Buckeye left in the NBA Playoffs. He is 36 years old and is still contributing to winning for a very good team. He’s with the Minnesota Timberwolves and just helped the team win a Game 7 on the road. Conley is still a player that is valuable in the league all of these years later.
Conley played for the Buckeyes in 2007 and helped them get to the National Championship Game. While they fell short against Florida, Conley was the fourth overall pick in the NBA Draft and has done a great job of staying in the league. He’s played for a few different teams in his career. This might be the best team he’s played with though.
Former Ohio State basketball player is one series away from playing for an NBA title
Conley had 10 points and eight rebounds in Game 7 in Denver to beat the defending champs. Now the former Buckeye has made the Western Conference Finals for the first time in over a decade. Conley probably has his best chance to win a title because this Timberwolves team is a really good squad.
While he ended up only making one All-Star game, that wasn’t because he isn’t good. Conley was stuck in a conference with some really good point guards in the West. If he had spent his career in the East, he would have been a multi-time All-Star. Even now, he’s a really good contributor to a young team that needs some veteran leadership.
Conley is just four wins away from playing for an NBA title. It’s not going to be easy. Minnesota has to take on the Dallas Mavericks and Luka Doncic. The Ohio State basketball program will definitely use him to help recruit new players too. Conley comes back in the offseason to talk with the players too, so that’s a bonus.
