Former Ohio State football player Chase Young played in the Super Bowl with the 49ers. He did so after getting traded mid-season to the 49ers from the Commanders. Young was teamed up with another former Ohio State football player on the defensive line, Nick Bosa. Together, they wreaked havoc on Patrick Mahomes.

Unfortunately, their great play wasn’t enough to beat the Chiefs to get a Super Bowl victory. They lost the game 25-22 in overtime. It’s crushing to lose in the biggest game of your career, but things aren’t all bad for Young. He did record a sack and had multiple pressures on Mahomes. He actually played pretty well in the game.

Former Ohio State football player Chase Young might score a big payday

The 49ers traded for Young in the middle of the season. He is a free agent now that the season is over and can sign anywhere he wants. San Francisco will likely be the favorites to sign him since they traded for him, but Young has the opportunity to score a big payday coming off that Super Bowl performance.

Young has been dogged in the last year or so for his lack of effort. As much as I hate to say it, it’s a worthy criticism. One specific play against Detroit faced a lot of scrutiny.

That play was not Young’s finest moment, but it was far from the only instance of this happening. That’s part of the reason the Commanders declined his fifth-year option and traded him to San Francisco. But his play on the biggest stage may have made him a lot of money. There aren’t many players out there that possess the physical tools that Young does.

Young isn’t the only NFL Buckeye who made himself some money with a good playoff showing. We’ll have to see how much money Young made with this performance and who decides to pay for it.
