Ex-Ohio State football player is apparently too big to get a job

Ex-Ohio State football player Mike Vrabel is apparently too large to get an NFL head coaching job because he inmidates front office people.

Former Ohio State football player Mike Vrabel is currently without a job. He got fired by the Titans after the season despite winning Coach of the Year just two seasons ago. Vrabel has constantly been praised for getting the most out of a roster that doesn’t have many pieces on it. This past season, he had to deal with a quarterback change in the middle of the year.

Yet, Vrabel is sitting at home without a job for next year. While this could be good for Buckeye fans who are hopeful to have him lead the team next year if Ryan Day gets fired, the possible reason for Vrabel not getting an NFL job is absolutely laughable. If this is true, then the NFL is extremely petty.

The rumor floating around is that Mike Vrabel is too physically large to get a head coaching job in the NFL. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, a GM told her that Vrabel is too physically imposing to make people comfortable to hire him. He’s too intimidating to front office people. That’s the ridiculous reason he doesn’t have a job.

What an insane notion! Vrabel was an NFL linebacker, of course he’s large! That’s part of the reason why he has the respect of the locker room. He can talk to players about what it’s like to play in the league against the best players in the world because he was doing it himself. The fact that another team wouldn’t hire him because he’s big is absurd.

Personally, I’m holding out hope Vrabel would come back to college to coach his alma mater. I know he’s not a fan of the college game, but I’m hoping Ross Bjork will back up the Brinks truck to get him to come back to Columbus. It’d be great to have him leading the Ohio State football program if Ryan Day fails in 2024.
