Figuring out ex-Ohio State football player Justin Fields’ next move

Former Ohio State football player Justin Fields is at a crossroads in his NFL career. Where will he play next year?

Former Ohio State football player Justin Fields was taken 11th overall in the 2021 Draft after the Chicago Bears traded up to get him. He was the fourth quarterback taken in that draft behind Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, and Trey Lance. Personally, I thought he was the second-best QB in that draft. History has declared that correct so far too.

Even so, Fields has had an extremely up-and-down NFL career so far. He’s not a very polished passer but hasn’t been given much help until this past season. He finally got a number-one receiver and a little bit of help on the offensive line. That help on the offensive line isn’t nearly enough to be considered good though.

Where will ex-Ohio State football player Justin Fields play next year?

The Bears have a big decision to make before the Draft in April. They have the number one overall pick for the second straight year. Do they decide to take a quarterback? Or are they going to keep rolling with Fields? In his career, he has thrown for 40 touchdowns and 30 interceptions and has also lost 15 fumbles. That’s a lot of turnovers.

At the same time, he’s a dynamic runner. He has 2,220 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns on the ground in his career. He ran for over 1,000 yards in 2022. When Fields takes care of the ball, he can make some seriously good plays. That’s what made him such a good Ohio State football player. He was truly special.

There’s a good chance that Fields gets traded to another team where he can try to become a franchise quarterback for some other team. I think the Bears are likely to take Caleb Williams or another quarterback first overall in the draft. Plenty of teams should be interested in Fields though. He’s still an extremely talented guy.

If Fields can clean up the turnovers and become a more polished passer, he has a shot to be a top-10 quarterback.
