The Ohio State basketball program has had a number of people leave via the transfer portal. A few players decided that they would have a better opportunity for playing time if they went somewhere else. Fans can’t blame them for that. They only lost one starter to the transfer portal and that was Roddy Gayle.

Gayle decided to enter the transfer portal once he heard that the Buckeyes were talking to Meechie Johnson. Johnson has returned to Ohio State after two years at South Carolina. Johnson will now move into the starting lineup now that Gayle is gone. Gayle hasn’t decided where he’s going yet, but he is visiting a hated rival today.

Gayle is considering heading to Michigan, which would be a big slap in the face of Buckeye fans. Ohio State basketball fans would be fine with him going literally anywhere else. He was sighted at Michigan’s Spring Game on Saturday afternoon on a visit. He is seriously considering heading to the Buckeyes’ arch-rival.

As far as a basketball fit goes, Gayle would be a massive upgrade to what Michigan has on the roster already. New coach Dusty May is trying to rebuild the program after Michigan finished the season with an embarrassing 8-24 record. Gayle might head over there and become one of their two best players, something he wasn’t with the Ohio State basketball team.

The Buckeyes are still looking around in the transfer portal. They have a couple of guards who could end up coming in to help them off the bench. As far as Gayle is concerned, Johnson is an upgrade over him because of his scoring ability at all three levels. Gayle was an inconsistent shooter from three, shooting just 28% from deep this past season.

Ohio State fans will wish Gayle well as long as he goes anywhere else. If he ends up at Michigan, all bets are off.
