After the 2018 season, Ohio State basketball player Micah Potter decided to transfer out. He is from Mentor, Ohio, so it was a bit surprising. Potter decided that he didn’t want to play for Chris Holtmann anymore. He wasn’t recruited by him. Instead, he was recruited by Thad Matta before Matta was let go after the 2017 season.

Potter decided to leave Ohio State and transferred to Wisconsin. It was a shame that Holtmann wasn’t able to keep him because he was a solid player who could score both inside and outside. It’s one of the reasons why he was fired; not being able to retain talent. Potter is now getting playing time for Team USA in exhibition games.

While not being selected on the actual roster, Potter has been getting some playing time for them. Most of it is because Kevin Durant is still hurt, but it’s still nice to see. He actually had some buckets for them on Wednesday and scored three points after making a deep three. The former Buckeye is showing NBA teams something.

Potter currently plays for the Utah Jazz but doesn’t really see the court. The only reason why he’s on Team USA in the first place is because he was on the USA Select team and the Americans needed an extra body with Durant hurt. Perhaps this little run with them will get him more playing time and more interest from NBA teams in the future.

It would have been nice if Potter had been able to stay at Ohio State and get more playing time. The Ohio State basketball team could have used a player with his skillset early on in Holtmann’s Buckeye coaching career. At the very least, he should have kept him from going to another Big Ten school.
