The Ohio State basketball program has put a few players into the NBA in recent years. The most famous one who is still in the league is Mike Conley. He hasn’t played for the Buckeyes since back in 2007. One recent Buckeye who is in the league is Duane Washington. He played for former Buckeye coach Chris Holtmann. Washington has played for a few NBA teams so far.

Washington has played for both the Pacers and the Suns. He’s now with the Knicks and is playing in Summer League for them as he fights for a spot on the roster. He has more experience playing in NBA games than some of the other players on the roster. Washington had himself a really good game against the Hornets.

Washington had himself a game against the Hornets. He was able to score 26 points on 8/18 shooting and 4/8 from deep. His value is on the offensive end. If he’s not scoring points and shooting efficiently, he’s not going to find the floor. Those types of shooting splits would be enough to get him on a roster.

The Knicks are loaded at the guard position so Washington likely won’t make the roster with them. Still, if he continues to play well in Summer League, he could get an opportunity with someone else. The former Buckeye is good enough on the offensive side of the ball to be in the league. His defense won’t ever be good, but he knows that.

This was the first game of a few more that Washington will play in Summer League. If he continues to make shots at a high clip and can score points like that, he’s going to be able to find a spot in the league. A few more games like this and that will be all but guaranteed.
