There are plenty of Ohio State football players who are in the NFL right now. Between what Urban Meyer was able to do and what Ryan Day keeps doing, the Buckeyes have no shortage of talent in the league. Some of them are the best players in the NFL while others are guys who are trying to hang onto their roster spots.

One player recently got another chance to play in the league this season. That is Gareon Conley. Conley was one of the best corners that the Buckeyes had back in 2016 in his final season. He ended up being a first-round pick by the Raiders back in 2017. He was selected 24th overall but didn’t last long in Oakland. Conley recently signed with the Cowboys, but not for long.

Former Ohio State football player surprisingly retires

Conley had signed with the Dallas Cowboys just last month. It was his first NFL opportunity since 2021. He earned the contract after playing well in the UFL this past Spring. It looked like he was going to get a second chance at being an impact player for a team that needs secondary help. Instead, his career is officially over.

Just one month after signing that deal, Conley has decided to retire from football. It’s a surprising move considering it looked like he was going to finally get the shot that he had been waiting for. Instead, he’s decided to walk away from the game at the age of 29. Perhaps he saw the talent on the field and didn’t think he had enough talent to do it anymore.

Whatever the reason, Conley’s football career is now over. He will now have to adjust to a life without football. It’s a shame that his NFL career never panned out to the level that most Ohio State football fans thought that it was going to.
