The Ohio State basketball program is likely to name Jake Diebler as their head coach. It seems like the right move.

The Ohio State basketball program was led by Jake Diebler for the last month of the season. In that final month, the Buckeyes were a really strong team. They were able to win six of their final eight games. While their season likely ended on Friday with the loss to Illinois, they will likely accept an NIT bid to keep playing for Diebler.

Multiple reports have come out that Ross Bjork will give Jake Diebler the head coaching job on a full-time basis. The interim tag will be lifted. Bjork has decided that Diebler was able to do enough to get the job and keep leading Ohio State. It was down to Diebler and Dusty May as the two candidates to take the job next year.

Jake Diebler is the right choice for the Ohio State basketball program

This Ohio State basketball team responded extremely well to Diebler’s changes. They started playing a faster brand of basketball and were able to close out on three-point shooters a lot better too. The emphasis that Diebler was able to place on the defense is what made the Buckeyes such a dangerous team at the end of the year.

Diebler showed that he can coach basketball. The question is whether or not he’s going to be able to recruit. I tend to think that he can considering he helped recruit a lot of the current players on the roster. Diebler has shown that he has a bond with the players and they really want to play hard for him.

It’s a bummer that the referees robbed them of a chance to play in the NCAA Tournament with that poor showing against the Illini. It would have been really fun to see how well this team could have played in March Madness. I think they could have won a game or two in the tournament with the confidence they’ve been playing with.
