The Ohio State basketball team won their first game in the NIT after taking down Cornell. It was a game that was closer than it should have been, but the two-seeded Buckeyes got the win. They will now take on Virginia Tech in the second round of the NIT, a game that the Buckeyes will host at the Schott.

Hosting the game is great for Ohio State basketball fans who want to cheer on Jake Diebler in the second game he’s coaching as the full-time coach. It’s not so great for people who want to watch the game on TV. The game will only be broadcast on ESPN+, which is something most fans don’t get.

This is the NIT, not the NCAA Tournament. Not every game is readily available, especially during a time period when the Women’s NCAA Tournament is also going on. That’s when the Buckeyes play. They play on Saturday at 7 pm, a time when ESPN is broadcasting a women’s game. That leaves no room for Ohio State.

This is extremely frustrating for fans who want to watch what Diebler is able to do as the full-time head coach. While he can’t win a national championship, he can still win the NIT. Being a two-seed gives them an opportunity to make a deep run just strictly based on their talent. That’s what happened with beating Cornell.

Instead, Ohio State basketball fans will either have to pay $6.99 for one month of something they likely won’t use after this or listen to it on the radio. There are some other ways to watch the game that are off the beaten path, but I know a lot of fans aren’t comfortable watching games that way.

Here’s hoping the Buckeyes are actually able to win on Saturday so that fans can actually see them play their next game. I guess they need Jamison Battle to have another big game.
