Former Ohio State basketball players have been playing in TBT for years now. Most of the time, the team’s name has been Carmen’s Crew. They actually won it all back in 2019 when William Buford won the MVP. It has been around since 2014 and former Buckeyes have been playing in it since then. This year is no different.
What is a bit different is who is on the team. There aren’t as many former Buckeyes on Carmen’s Crew as there have been in the past. Andrew Wesson, Kaleb Wesson, Kyle Young, and Keyshawn Woods are four of the five former Ohio State basketball players who are on the roster. The other former Buckeye is an Ohio State legend though.
Former Ohio State basketball player Jared Sullinger is playing for Carmen’s Crew
Jared Sullinger has committed to playing in TBT for the first time since 2018. For the last few years, he’s been coaching the team. Now that he’s playing in a league overseas that isn’t in China, his contract isn’t prohibiting him from participating. Now he can actually try to help the team win with his play on the court.
Sullinger is an Ohio State basketball legend. He was a back-to-back Consensus First-team All-American when he played for Ohio State. He helped lead the Buckeyes to the 2012 Final Four. Now he’s going to try to lead a group of former Buckeyes to a title in The Basketball Tournament. He can still play solid basketball because he’s still playing overseas.
This is the smallest group of former Ohio State basketball players that have played in this event since it started. Most of Thad Matta’s guys are a little old to play in it. A lot of Chris Holtmann’s guys have never had an interest. Jake Diebler might produce some players who play in it in the future, but he also is more focused on developing NBA talent.
TBT starts on Friday, July 19th.
