The Ohio State basketball program is in the process of building itself back up as a program. Jake Diebler knows what greatness looks like in Columbus. His brother played during the best era of Buckeye basketball since the 1960s. Thad Matta showed that Ohio State can be not just a regional powerhouse, but a national one too.

Diebler is trying to get the Buckeyes back to that spot. It’s not something he’s going to be able to do overnight. The rules have changed too. NIL money is going to be important in building a roster. Still, he’s been able to grab a five-star recruit already and now has a shot at getting a top-50 recruit in the 2025 recruiting class.

Kiyan Anthony has the Ohio State basketball program in his top six

One of the big prospects that the Buckeyes are going after in this cycle is Kiyan Anthony. Anthony is the son of basketball legend Carmelo Anthony. Ohio State has been on him early and he will be taking a visit to Columbus. Anthony also recently just released his final six schools and the Buckeyes have made the cut.

Anthony has narrowed his schools down to Ohio State, Syracuse, Rutgers, Auburn, Florida State, and USC. As you can see, his interests are all over the place. There’s no specific geographical footprint he’s trying to stay in. Of course, his father played for Syracuse and that continues to be the leading candidate for him at this point.

That could change after a visit to Columbus. Diebler could put on a big show that would allow the Buckeyes to vault into that top spot and maybe even lock him down. The Ohio State basketball program needs talent if they want to compete for championships. Anthony is a high-level talent that would sure look good in Scarlet and Gray.
