The Ohio State football program is preparing for the season ahead. The Buckeyes have one of the best rosters in the country. That’s the main reason why they are the second-ranked team in the country. They have done a great job assembling a coaching staff around Ryan Day that should help this roster reach its potential too.

Day has had some problems coaching in big games. He hasn’t won a Big Ten Championship since 2020 and hasn’t won a national title yet. That wouldn’t be so bad if he hadn’t lost to Michigan three years in a row. He has a lot to prove this year to Ohio State football fans. Apparently, he has a lot less to prove to CBS Sports.

Ohio State football coach Ryan Day wins Preseason Coach of the Year

CBS Sports is giving out preseason awards. They don’t mean anything and the winner doesn’t get any sort of trophy. Ryan Day received the Preseason Coach of the Year from CBS. He got it because of the roster that he was able to assemble via the transfer portal and for bringing in Chip Kelly as the offensive coordinator for the team.

Ohio State is still under an enormous amount of pressure to win big this season. They have embraced a national championship-or-bust mentality. Day needs a beat Michigan-or-bust mentality because if he doesn’t win that game, Ross Bjork could give him a pink slip. It seems that CBS Sports doesn’t care about that aspect of his job.

This is the second-most talented roster that Ryan Day has been the head coach of. Only the 2019 team was better. If he can’t get this team to beat Michigan, win a Big Ten Championship, or win a national title, that’s a big problem. He needs to be able to put this team all together and win some big games.

Ryan is an Ohio State graduate and has been writing for various publications for the past seven years. His work has been featured on FanSided, Apple News, Yahoo, Bleacher Report, and more. He has been covering Ohio State exclusively for four years.
