Ohio State Football: Learning a new offense shouldn’t be an issue

The Ohio State football team has to learn a new offensive playbook this Spring, although it’s very similar to what they already know.

The Ohio State football program is getting Spring practices back underway now that they are back from Spring Break. This is the time when they can get a head start on their competition by getting reps against each other and some of the best recruits in the country. One of the main things the offense is doing right now is learning some new plays.

Chip Kelly is coming in with an offense that’s different from Ryan Day. The good news is that it’s not a ton different. Day and Kelly run a lot of the same schemes, so it shouldn’t be that hard to learn. What Kelly does do more than Day is get the running game into more creative spots, which is a positive.

New Ohio State football starters shouldn’t have problems learning a new offense

The Buckeyes will have a few new starters on offense this year. Will Howard is the most visible of them at quarterback. He is one of the few guys who is learning an entirely new offense. Coming over from Kansas State, the terminology will be a lot different. He’s the one guy who might have to study the playbook a little harder to get it perfected.

For the rest of the new starters, most of them have been in the program for at least a year. It shouldn’t be too much of an issue, but it’s something you hear about every now and then. It takes some players longer than others to pick up the playbook sometimes. For this specific team though, I don’t think it’s an issue at all.

I am excited to see what this team can do when they are all up to speed in the Fall. This is a team that has high aspirations and could be the first Ohio State football team to win a national championship since 2014.
