The Ohio State football team does not have a lot of depth at the running back position. Only TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins have actual experience carrying the ball in a game. The only two other scholarship running backs on the roster are true freshmen. They were hoping to get some carries from a walk-on if needed.

That walk-on is TC Caffey. He showed some ability in the Spring Game to hit the hole and do some things if one of the top two guys got hurt. Henderson is not exactly a beacon of health. He hasn’t played more than 10 games since his freshman season. Unfortunately, Caffey isn’t going to be able to help them this year

Ohio State football player will miss the 2024 season with an injury

According to Dave Biddle of Bucknuts, Caffey will miss the 2024 season with a knee injury. He hurt it in offseason workouts. So now if one of the top two guys gets hurt, the Buckeyes will have to rely on one of the two freshmen. Ohio State now has to hope that both Henderson and Judkins stay healthy throughout the whole season.

Ohio State will be running the ball now that Ryan Day has turned over the offense to Chip Kelly. How the Buckeyes allocate carries between these two running backs now will be very interesting. They need to be a bit smarter with the lack of depth behind these guys. It’s good that Will Howard is a slight upgrade when it comes to throwing the ball.

The Buckeyes will still have great weapons on the outside to throw to, so they could pivot back into being a pass-first team. This team is going to be led by the defense first anyway. They are one of the best defensive teams in the country and could end up being the hardest defense to play.
