The Ohio State football team has a lot of good coaches on staff. Ryan Day was able to bring in Chip Kelly as the offensive coordinator and the new play-caller. It was perhaps the best offseason coaching move that any program was able to make. Even so, the Buckeyes still have a coach on staff who will be on the hot seat this season.

Day’s seat is certainly warm entering this season, but it’s not as hot as one of his assistants is. That assistant coach is offensive line coach Justin Frye. Frye was brought back in the offseason despite a track record of not being able to recruit well and having his unit be the worst on the team a season ago. Now, he is on the hottest of seats.

Frye just lost two more offensive line recruits. He has only landed one recruit ranked higher than 120th in the country and has never gotten a five-star prospect. In fact, the 2025 recruiting class has only two offensive linemen. The depth of the offensive line is simply not there because of his weak recruiting classes and it’s almost a crisis at this point.

Unless the Buckeyes have one of the best offensive lines in the country, there is a very good chance that Frye will find himself unemployed when the season ends. That’s even the case if the Ohio State Buckeyes win a national championship. This team simply can’t have the recruiting mishaps and the poor play up front again.

Ohio State is hoping that Kelly, who is Frye’s former boss, is able to get the best out of him this year. If he can, the Buckeyes are going to be in a good spot. If he can’t, then this team won’t be at its full potential and could finish short of their goals.
