The Ohio State football team starts its season this weekend. They will take on Akron at home in the Shoe. It’s a game that is not expected to be close, but you never know in college football. Appalachian State did beat fifth-ranked Michigan back in 2007 to start the season so everyone has to be vigilant to start the year.

Akron will have a tall task coming into the Shoe on August 31st. As far as the Buckeyes are concerned, they want to make that test as hard as possible. They will be debuting a new quarterback for the third straight season. This is the perfect team to have that scenario unfold because Akron’s defense is not very good.

What the Ohio State football team should expect out of Akron

Akron’s defense is actually not bad when compared to other MAC schools. Last season, they only allowed 16.3 points per game. They did lose some of their best players on that side of the ball, so that is good for Will Howard. Howard will have his first opportunity to throw the ball with some of the best receivers that he has ever played with.

Defensively, the Buckeyes shouldn’t have anything to worry about. They are perhaps the best defense in the country and for sure have the best secondary. Akron shouldn’t be able to move the ball very well against them. I would be surprised if the Zips ended up scoring more than 10 points, even when the backups get into the game.

This is a good chance for the Buckeyes to work out some kinks in the offense against an opponent that isn’t very good. The Zips shouldn’t be any threat to the Ohio State Buckeyes as they start their very important 2024 season. Ohio State should be able to win the game without too much stress.
