The Ohio State women’s basketball team needed to just win one of their final two games to win an outright Big Ten title. They already clinched at least a share of it after beating Maryland last weekend. First up was TTUN at home on Wednesday night. Michigan was the only team that had beaten them in the Big Ten this year.

They were no match for the Buckeyes on senior night. In front of over 10,000 people, the Buckeyes took down the Wolverines 67-51 to avenge their only Big Ten loss. It gives the Ohio State women’s basketball team their first outright Big Ten championship since 2010. It also gives them a lot of confidence heading into the Big Ten Tournament.

Ohio State women’s basketball team used turnovers to beat TTUN

It was their defense that really made the difference. Ohio State forced TTUN into a whopping 29 turnovers. Michigan just couldn’t handle the press as well this time. Ohio Staet’s half-court defense was also much better than it was in the first meeting. Head coach Kevin McGuff said that was an emphasis in this second matchup.

On offense, Jacy Sheldon led the way for the Buckeyes. She scored 22 points and drilled four three-pointers. The second half is really what gave Ohio State the win. After scoring just 22 points in the first half as a team, they scored 27 points in the third quarter alone. They used that scoring blitz to pull away from TTUN.

Ohio State has just one game left in the regular season. They take on Iowa and Caitlin Clark in Iowa City on Sunday. While this game has a little less juice now that a Big Ten title isn’t at stake, the Buckeyes still have some motivation. If they beat Iowa, they could knock them out of contention for a number-one seed in the NCAA Tournament.

As long as the Buckeyes at least make the semifinals of the Big Ten Tourney, they will be a number-one seed in March Madness. This team is a true national championship contender.
