The Ohio State basketball program is trying to build themselves back up. The last couple of years in Columbus have been rough. Chris Holtmann had this team on a bad path. He was let go in the middle of February and Jake Diebler took over to revive the program. He did a really good job at the end of the year to get the team in the conversation for the NCAA Tournament.
While they fell just short, he sent a message to his current team and to future recruits; the Buckeyes are back. Ohio State had a track record of success under Thad Matta and Diebler wants to get back to that kind of success. In order to do that, he needs talent. One of the best recruits in the country is interested in Ohio State to help them.
Top center recruit interested in the Ohio State basketball program
The second-best center in the country has Ohio State in his final eight schools. Malachi Moreno, a center from Kentucky, wants to visit Ohio State. Other than Ohio State, Moreno is considering Arkansas, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, and Notre Dame. The Buckeyes are a welcome addition to that list.
Moreno stands at 6’11 and 230 pounds. He is a player that has a lot of potential both offensively and defensively. The Buckeyes are in need of a shot-blocker now that Felix Okpara is gone. Moreno is in the 2025 recruiting class. Ohio State might not be the favorite for him right out of the gate, but that could change if he makes a visit.
Diebler has done a good job early in his tenure as head coach recruiting. He doesn’t have any commits for the 2025 class yet, but that’s perfectly fine. A lot of other schools don’t have any recruits for that class either. Adding Moreno would be adding to Diebler’s strong recruiting start.
