Jake Diebler has done a good job as the coach of the Ohio State basketball team so far. He almost was able to get the Buckeyes into the NCAA Tournament last season. While the team fell just short, it still showed that he has what it takes to coach. He also has the job of changing how the Buckeyes recruit for the future.

One of the things that people had questions about with Diebler was his recruiting abilities. He very quickly showed that he could recruit after he got a five-star recruit for the 2026 class. He didn’t have a recruit for the 2025 class until Monday. That’s when he got his first recruit for the class and he is an in-state product.

Dorian Jones chooses the Ohio State basketball program

Dorian Jones, a four-star recruit from Cleveland, picked the Buckeyes on Monday afternoon. He chose the Buckeyes over Michigan, Rutgers, and Missouri. Jones is a four-star shooting guard who is a good defender and who can shoot it well from deep. He’s the prototypical three-and-D guy that everyone covets.

Anytime that you keep a good player in the state of Ohio, that’s good. Anytime you keep a good player in the state of Ohio away from Michigan, that’s even better. The Buckeyes are excited to get Jones. He’s someone that they have been recruiting since 2022 when they first offered him. None of his other final four schools offered him before April of this year.

While Jones is the first recruit for 2025 to choose Ohio State, he won’t be the last. The Buckeyes have a few others who are looking to schedule visits. They also have dished out plenty of scholarship offers as well. Ohio State still has plenty of work ahead of them so they can finish the class. It’s very early when it comes to this recruiting cycle.
