There will be plenty of golfers competing in the U.S. Open this week at Pinehurst No. 2. The best players in the world will all be competing to win the third major of the year. Two of those players are actually Ohio State Buckeyes, including one who played in the U.S. Open last year at Los Angeles Country Club.

Ohio State had a strong golf season and actually competed for a national championship. They ended up falling just short of being able to win it all, but both of the Ohio State golfers who are competing in the U.S. Open played well. One of the Buckeyes golfers is actually using the U.S. Open as the first pro tournament that he’s playing in.

Maxwell Moldovan just finished up his Ohio State golf career. He’s now competing in the U.S. Open as a professional, and this will be an interesting experience for him. He played at LA CC last season and made the cut and actually finished at 65th. That’s not a bad finish for his first-ever appearance in a major championship.

His OSU teammate, Neal Shipley, is also playing this week. Shipley is playing in his second major of the year after he also played in the Masters in April. He was actually the low amateur in the tournament. Shipley is looking to play even better at a course that is a lot different from Augusta National which he played in April.

Both Buckeyes are looking to make the cut at a bare minimum. The dream would obviously be for one of them to win the championship. While that’s unlikely to happen, it would be a very cool story. The Ohio State golf team has already had a very good season and is looking to have another big moment.
