The Ohio State football program has legends from every era. They’ve been a powerhouse since the 1940s. Because of that, the Buckeyes have had plenty of College Football Hall of Famers. They have a good chance to get two more for the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame class because two legends are on the ballot.
One of those legends is former coach Urban Meyer. Meyer is one of just two FBS coaches in history to win a national championship with multiple schools. He won a title with Florida in 2006 and 2008, beating the Buckeyes in ’06. He also won a national title in 2014 with Ohio State in one of the most unlikely title runs in history.
Urban Meyer and James Laurinaitis could join other Ohio State football legends in the College Football Hall of Fame
James Laurinaitis is also on the ballot, just as he was last year. He is one of the most decorated defensive players in Ohio State football history. He was a three-time All-Big Ten player. Not only that, he was a Consensus All-American in 2006 and 2008 while being a Unanimous All-American in 2007. Laurinaitis also was a two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.
Laurinaitis also has brought home a ton of hardware. He won the Lott Trophy in 2008, the Bronco Nagurksi Trophy in 2006, and the Butkus Award in 2007. He also won the Jack Lambert Trophy twice. Laurinaitis is one of the best defensive players to ever play for the Buckeyes. It’s a bit surprising that he’s not in the College Football Hall of Fame already.
Both of these guys have to get into the Hall of Fame at some point. They are both legends of the game and deserve to be recognized as such. I would think that both of them would get in at some point. This is Meyer’s first year on the ballot. This comes just after a Buckeye football legend will be inducted into Ohio State’s Athletics Hall of Fame.
