Not every Ohio State football player goes on to have a great career after they leave Columbus. Some Buckeyes never find success in the NFL. Some even get in trouble with the law and can’t get out of their own way. That’s true of every school though and not uniquely an Ohio State issue. Not everyone is going to do the right thing.

Unfortunately, that has been the case for former Buckeye Damon Arnette. The former Ohio State football player has had several run-ins with the law since he was drafted by the Raiders in 2020. He was a surprise first-round pick and never lived up to the billing, playing in just 13 games for them before being cut. He’s now had another arrest.

Former Ohio State football player arrested on meth and gun charges

Arnette was allegedly arrested in Texas on meth and gun charges. It would be at least his third incident with the cops in the last four years. His attorney says that he never should have been arrested and that the issue was he couldn’t provide a prescription for lawful drugs he was taking. According to him, these legal issues are about to go away.

I’m not so sure. I’m no lawyer, but it doesn’t seem like someone getting arrested for allegedly having both meth and gun in the car is a mistake. We’ll see if this issue does eventually get cleaned up. I hope it does for his sake. This is way too many times that Arnette has been in the news for something other than football reasons.

Arnette’s football career is undoubtedly over. No team is going to sign him after he was such a big bust with the Raiders and he’s got a history of off-the-field problems. Football should be the last thing on his mind anyway. He needs to get his life in order before he can even think about trying to get back on the field.

Not every one of the Ohio State Buckeyes can be C.J. Stroud when they get to the league. I just hope this is the last time Arnette gets arrested.
