Back in the 2016 NFL Draft, former Ohio State football player Ezekiel Elliott was considered the best running back in the country. He was coming off two straight fantastic seasons with the Buckeyes. Elliot ended up being the fourth overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. The Dallas Cowboys decided to take him and he was great for them for a long time.

While he was with the Cowboys, he made the Pro Bowl three times. He was also named Second-team All-Pro in 2018 and First-team All-Pro in 2016. He was a true weapon for them and signed a six-year contract extension with them back in 2019 worth $90 million. Last season he played with the New England Patriots. Now, he’s back in Dallas.

Elliott is now 28 years old and not quite the same as he was. He is now back where he started his NFL career and he is hoping to rekindle some of what made him great in the past. Elliott is a fan favorite in Dallas and he is back on just a one-year deal. He has carved out a pretty long career for an NFL running back.

We’ll see what Elliott has in store for his second act in Dallas. Even though he’s no longer a top-five back in the league, he can still help them in short-yardage situations. Two years ago when he was with Dallas, he had 12 touchdown runs. He still has good hands so he can be a factor in the passing game too. His blocking is still pretty solid as well.

I don’t think this changes the ceiling on how good the Cowboys can be this year, but that doesn’t matter. Elliott is just happy to be back where he started his career. Perhaps it ends up where he finishes his career too.
