The Ohio State basketball team is still riding high on momentum. Despite coming up just short of an NCAA Tournament bid, the Buckeyes were able to get their first win in the NIT against Cornell. They play their second-round game against Virginia Tech on Saturday, although you may not be able to watch it. On the court isn’t the only place the Buckeyes have momentum.

Both signees of the 2024 recruiting class have re-committed to Ohio State. Both Juni Mobley and Colin White have reaffirmed their commitment to Jake Diebler and the Buckeyes. While Mobley is the higher-rated recruit of the two, White just received an honor that few Ohio State basketball recruits have earned.

Ohio State basketball signee Colin White is named Mr. Basketball

White was named Mr. Basketball in the state of Ohio. The senior from Ottawa Glandorf High School has led the Titans to the Final Four in all four years of his high school career. He so far has averaged 24.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.6 steals a game. He’s usually the best player on the court every time he steps onto it.

The three-star recruit will pass the 2,000 career point total in Ottawa Glandorf’s Final Four game on Friday. He would be the first Titan to do so. He’s a prolific scorer who can do it from all three levels. The primary reason he’s just a three-star recruit is because of the level of competition he’s playing in Northwest Ohio.

The Buckeyes have had quite a few good players from that region of the state play for them though. While I don’t see White contributing a ton right away next season, he could be a solid piece off the bench as a freshman. At 6’6, he has the size to switch across three positions on defense, which is valuable.

It’s good to see an Ohio State signee get such a distinctive honor.
