The Ohio State football program is looking at 2025 recruiting prospects right now. The 2024 class has been wrapped up since earlier this month so they are already looking forward to next year’s class. They’re doing a pretty good job so far, having already grabbed some top-ten prospects. They’d really like to grab one of the top players in the state of Ohio too.
That player is Trey McNutt. He’s an athlete who is currently a four-star prospect who projects as a safety. He’s from Cleveland and attends Shaker Heights High School. McNutt has offers from a ton of schools, including Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Notre Dame, and LSU just to name a few. He has a total of 35 offers so far.
Ohio State football target could be suspended for his senior season
McNutt is currently facing a potential suspension from Shaker Heights for his senior season. His crime? Being elected to be on a 7v7 team. Apparently, that is against OHSAA rules. You’re not allowed to play for a non-school team during a certain period of time. He took place in a 7 on 7 tournament in January and plans to again later this year.
McNutt is fighting the rule because he believes it’s unfair. I tend to agree with him. It doesn’t make any sense that this rule exists in the state of Ohio. If kids playing basketball can play in AAU tournaments during the offseason, why can’t football players participate in 7 on 7 camps that aren’t between May and June?
I’m not sure how this is going to get resolved. There’s obviously a lot of time between now and the start of football season so this should get resolved before then. As far as the Buckeyes are concerned, they like this kid already. I’m not sure a suspension for a dumb rule would affect their thinking all that much.
McNutt has attended camps at Penn State and Tennesee so far and has unofficially visited Tennessee. He hasn’t scheduled one with Ohio State yet. We’ll see if he does this summer.
