Ross Bjork is not afraid to take big swings. The new Ohio State AD took a big swing when he hired Jimbo Fisher and signed him to a huge contract. It ended up not working out, but he swung for the fences. He might swing for the fences when it comes to hiring the new Ohio State basketball coach when the season ends too.
Unless Jake Diebler somehow goes on a massive run to end the season, the Buckeyes will hire from outside the program. There is a list of names that I prefer and Sean Miller isn’t on it. Yet, if Bjork wants to take a big swing on this hire, Miller would be the guy he’d bring in. It seems like Miller is frustrated enough with the Big East to make a move too.
Sean Miller’s frustration with the Big East could make Ohio State basketball job more attractive
If anyone watched Xavier’s game last night, you saw Miller get a technical foul. He was not pleased that he picked it up and went on a massive rant afterward. He thought it was a crucial moment in the Muskateers’ loss to Providence. His team has now lost three straight games, which is not exactly what Bjork would like to see if he’s considering Miller.
Miller doesn’t seem to think he gets respect in the Big East. He definitely would get respect in the Big Ten. He also knows Ohio recruiting and can recruit in the state of Indiana too. Those are the two most important states when you’re recruiting for the Ohio State basketball program. Miller has a track record of bringing in some good players too.
Am I saying I want Miller to be the next coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes? I’m not sure. I don’t like what he did at Arizona but his results on the court are undeniable. He certainly would bring a jolt back to the program that it didn’t have under Chris Holtmann. He wouldn’t need a lot of time to bring the Buckeyes back to relevance.
If Diebler doesn’t make a miracle run, the Buckeyes will likely have someone in mind by the end of March. A hire could even be finalized by then depending on what happens in March Madness. It’s going to be an interesting few weeks around this program.
