Ohio State has great athletes in every sport. They are one of the premier athletic departments in the country. The Buckeyes aren’t just good at football. They showed that this year by competing for national championships in a bunch of different sports. On Tuesday, they announced the Ohio State Athletes of the Year.

The Ohio State Female Athlete of the Year is Jacy Sheldon. Sheldon was the leader of the Ohio State women’s basketball team and helped lead them to an Elite Eight in her junior season. Her senior season ended a bit disappointingly after falling to Duke in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at home.

Two great choices for Ohio State’s Athletes of the Year

Sheldon was the point guard for the Buckeyes as well as the leader. She averaged 1.9 steals a game, which was the sixth-best mark in the country. She was a really good defensive player and the Buckeyes missed her when she got hurt early in the year. Now, she’s in the WNBA after she was the fifth overall pick in the WNBA Draft.

The Male Ohio State Athlete of the Year is JJ Tracy. Tracy is a tennis player and has done some really strong things for a tennis team that won an indoor national championship. It was a year for him that saw him win two championships in doubles, including a national championship. He also won a Big Ten title on top of that too.

Tracy had a record of 77-12 combined in singles and doubles this past year. He was First-team All-Big Ten and was named a First-team All-American as well. It’s harder for him to have had a better individual year than that. The Buckeyes had plenty of great male athletes this year, but he had the strongest resume of them all.
