The Ohio State football program had several draft prospects this year. Not all of them were top guys in the Draft, but that doesn’t matter. A lot of Buckeyes got to realize their lifelong dream over the weekend. Some guys were drafted into better situations than others. In the case of a player like Marvin Harrison Jr., it doesn’t matter. He’s so good he’s going to be good no matter where he ends up.

Of the guys who were drafted, two stand out to me as being drafted into the best situations. They were drafted into situations that will allow them not just succeed right now, but also down the line. Most NFL careers only last about three years so these guys need to be given a good head start to make their careers last.

The two Ohio State football players drafted into the best situations

Cade Stover is the first guy who got drafted into an ideal situation. He was taken in the fourth round by the Houston Texans and is reunited with his former quarterback, C.J. Stroud. Stroud is the best quarterback to throw to Stover over the course of his career. They have great chemistry and Stroud knows exactly what to do to put Stover in a place to succeed.

Stover also won’t be asked to be in too many blocking situations. Those are the situations in which he struggles with the most, so he will just be used as a pass-catcher. As a fourth-round pick, he won’t be counted on as a starter right away. He can work himself into that spot over time.

The other Ohio State football player in a good spot is Tommy Eichenberg. Eichenberg is a tackling machine and a workhorse. His work ethic is going to fit perfectly in with the Raiders. Eichenberg was selected in the fifth round by Las Vegas. He will contribute on special teams right away and should be able to get in some obvious run situations too.

Of all of the Buckeyes in the Draft, these are the two guys set up most for success. The Buckeyes should have even more high-level draft prospects next season, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
