The Ohio State football team finished up its 2024 recruiting class on Wednesday. It was National Signing Day and the Buckeyes only needed to sign one more player. That player was defensive lineman Dominic Kirks. Everyone else already signed during the early signing period, which is clearly more popular now.
Ohio State is bringing in 23 commits from this year’s recruiting class, although one of them technically still counts for Alabama. Quarterback Julian Sayin technically enrolled at Alabama for a few days so he counts as a transfer. Regardless, it’s another top-five class for the Buckeyes under Ryan Day. He has shown to be a consistent recruiter.
These are the top guys to watch for the Ohio State football team’s 2024 recruiting class
When you sign a talented class, multiple people stand out. The number-one guy that stands out for me is the number-one player in the country, Jeremiah Smith. Smith is a freak athlete at the wide receiver position and could immediately fight for playing time as a true freshman. He could be a freak like Marvin Harrison Jr. was.
Smith is the guy who could challenge for playing time the soonest, but he’s not the most important guy in this class to me. The two quarterbacks are. Air Noland and Sayin will be fighting for the starting job in 2025. Whichever one wins will stay and the other will likely transfer out. I think both quarterbacks are extremely talented and I don’t think the Buckeyes can go wrong either way.
Another player I’ll be watching is cornerback Aaron Scott. He is the top-rated corner in this class but has some competition coming behind him. The 2025 class already looks like an all-time class in the secondary, so how quickly Scott can develop is going to be critical for him to see playing time early. Otherwise, he could be a candidate to be out the door in a couple of seasons.
It will take a couple of years to see most of these guys starting to make a real impact on this Ohio State football team, but it’s always exciting to get a new recruiting class in.
