The Ohio State football program has already moved on from the 2024 recruiting cycle. Now that everyone is signed, they are focusing on future recruiting classes. The 2025 cycle has already started off about as well as you can do for the Buckeyes, but they also have some commitments for the 2026 recruiting class as well.

Looking at their class right now, the Buckeyes have the top-rated class in 2026 despite having just one commitment. That commitment is the seventh-best player in the entire country though. It’s receiver Chris Henry Jr., who announced his commitment to the Buckeyes last year after dominating in a camp.

Ohio State football recruit Chris Henry Jr. will transfer high schools

Henry Jr. is from the Cincinnati area and his father played for the Bengals. After playing in Ohio for his first two years of high school, he announced that he is transferring to Mater Dai High School in Santa Ana, California. He announced the decision on social media.

It’s clear that Henry Jr. wants to focus more strictly on football and Mater Dai is a powerhouse in California. Withrow High School in Cincinnati is where he has attended up to this point. They are Division II in Ohio, so not quite the biggest division. The competition is still good, but it will be better at Mater Dai.

Henry Jr. is trying to put himself to be in the best possible position to compete for playing time early with the Buckeyes. He knows how good the Ohio State football program is at developing receivers. He wants to be able to step on the field right away and prove that he belongs. Right now, he’s the sole receiver committed for that class. We know that won’t last.

I’m very intrigued to see what Henry Jr. brings to the Buckeyes in a few years when he does eventually get to Columbus. He has all the skills to be the next great Buckeye receiver.
