Ohio Stadium is a great venue. It not only is able to host 105,000 people for an Ohio State football game, but it also hosts a variety of other sporting events. Lacrosse games have been played there, as well as an international soccer game. It’s a place that all Ohio State Buckeyes can be proud of.

We told you about the possibility for the Shoe to host a pro hockey game. Since the Columbus Blue Jackets have never played in a Winter Classic game, it’s about time they got an opportunity to do so. It looks like that time is soon. The Jackets are set to host the Detroit Red Wings for a game in Ohio Stadium next season.

The Ohio State Buckeyes will help host an NHL game in March 2025

The preliminary date for this outdoor hockey game is March 1st, 2025. It will showcase the Jackets against the Red Wings. It makes sense for Detroit to be the opponent considering the proximity to Columbus. Ohio State will be heavily involved in putting on the game and everything that comes with it. It will be cool to see an ice rink at midfield.

This game is obviously still a year away, but it’s a very cool thing for Ohio State to get on board with. I’m glad Ross Bjork and Ted Carter, the new AD and President, have decided to do this. It will showcase the wonders of the Shoe to a whole new audience. Not only that, but Ohio State will get a bunch of exposure too.

I wouldn’t be surprised to be a bunch of different Ohio State Buckeyes at this game. From current players to former players in all sports, I bet this will be a big part that Ohio State will put on. It could be something Ohio State brings recruits too as well. In fact, I bet Ohio State football recruits will take unofficial visits on this date.
