The Ohio State football program hasn’t done a very good job of recruiting elite talent on the offensive line in the last few years. That’s one of the reasons some fans wanted Justin Frye fired. He has yet to get a single five-star recruit in the two-plus seasons he’s been with the Buckeyes. That’s not something that’s normal for this program.
Depth is an issue on the offensive line too. Frye is trying to change both of those issues with the 2025 recruiting class. He’s swinging big early, which is something he needs to do. The Buckeyes already look good on defense in the 2025 class. It’s the offense’s turn to produce some top-tier talent on the recruiting front.
Ohio State football pushing hard for David Sanders Jr.
One prospect Frye and Ryan Day have their eyes on is David Sanders Jr. He is a five-star recruit from Charlotte, North Carolina. He’s actually the second-best overall recruit in the 2025 class, so he’d certainly be a prize for the Buckeyes. He would also be the highest-rated recruit the Buckeyes have in the 2025 class if they were able to sign him.
Sanders Jr. has six schools he’s choosing among for his college decision. Those schools are South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Tennessee, and Ohio State. As you can see, most of those schools are in the South. Ohio State is the only northern school that has a shot at landing him.
Landing Sanders Jr. would help Frye with his job security. Ohio State football fans were not happy with how the offensive line performed late in the year, especially in the final two games. It’s the unit that could keep them from winning a national championship in 2024. If Frye can’t coach up this unit this season or land elite recruits, he’ll have to find a new job elsewhere.
Sanders Jr. still has some visits to take so it’s unlikely he will make a commitment anytime soon. Still, it’s nice to know that the Buckeyes have a chance to land one of the best players in the country.
