Ohio State football program not worried about de-committment

The Ohio State football program lost a recruit earlier this week. It’s not something they are concerned about moving forward.

The Ohio State football program is known for having the best wide receiver room in the country. What Brian Hartline does on the recruiting trail is truly spectacular. He brings in the best players from around the country and gets them to compete in the same room. That’s not for everyone though.

Take Jayvan Boggs for example. The four-star receiver had been committed to the Buckeyes since October. That changed earlier this week when he announced that he had de-committed. He’s a borderline four-star prospect with some services listing him as a three-star recruit, so that might be why he decided Ohio State isn’t right for him.

Boggs was the only receiver commit that the Buckeyes had in the 2025 recruiting class. That doesn’t mean that he will be the only recruit by the time the cycle is over. Hartline is going to land at least two receivers in this class. They’re going to be at least four-star receivers too. Boggs probably saw the writing was on the wall as far as his playing time was concerned.

Ohio State is also bringing in two five-star freshmen this season so the room is already pretty crowded. Unless Boggs showed up and was an absolute stud in camp, he was going to get buried in the depth chart. He’s probably looking for somewhere else that has more playing time available. I can’t necessarily fault him for that.

As far as the Ohio State football team is concerned, they aren’t worried about the de-commitment at all. Hartline is one of the best recruiters in the country at any position group, so Ryan Day isn’t concerned with how many recruits he’s going to bring in. He knows he can get some great receivers.

It’s unclear when the next Buckeye commitment will happen, although some could happen once the Spring Game is over.
