Ohio State football recruiting target helps change high school rules

The Ohio State football team has a target that was facing a suspension for a dumb reason. That is no longer the case.

Ohio State football recruits in the state of Ohio have not been able to participate in 7-on-7 drills for years now. There’s not really any good reason for that. Legislators in the state will tell you it is so kids don’t hurt themselves by playing too many sports all year round. That’s simply not the case though.

We told you about an Ohio State football recruiting prospect who was facing a suspension for participating in a 7-on-7 outside the state. Trey McNutt was facing a suspension for participating in one during a certain period when he wasn’t allowed to. That case has forced the OHSAA to change its archaic rules.

Starting today, 7-on-7 is now okay during any time of the year. The fact that it took something like this to change the rule in the first place is stupid. McNutt will no longer be facing a suspension for this. Other high school players won’t have to either, which is a good thing. The OHSAA has a lot of other things they need to fix too.

As far as McNutt is concerned, he keeps racking up the D1 offers. He still hasn’t made a decision on any school to attend either. He hasn’t narrowed down his list much either. Ohio State is still in the mix, but we’ll have to see what he ultimately decides to do. Ohio State got its first safety commit for the 2025 class last weekend.

If the Ohio State football team would be able to land him, it would continue their run of great recruits in the secondary they’ve been able to land. It’s been a really strong start to the 2025 class for Ryan Day and his staff. They should be able to keep things rolling as the Spring goes along.

I’m happy McNutt was able to use his case to help make this change.
