The Ohio State football program has been on fire on the recruiting trail recently. They had the best recruiting weekend of the year so far and are trying to follow that up with more good things. Ohio State is now trying to get a running back despite not having a full-time running backs coach on staff yet.

Tony Alford’s departure still hasn’t led to a replacement being hired. Ryan Day has been running the meetings in that room. And yet, the Buckeyes are projected to land a four-star running back. Perhaps this prospect just really likes what Day and new offensive coordinator Chip Kelly is doing and it doesn’t matter who they hire.

Ohio State football team projected to land RB Jordon Davison

Jordon Davison, a four-star running back from Mater Day High School in California, is now projected to head to Ohio State. The projection was made by ON3’s Steve Wiltfong. Davison stands at 5’11 and 203 pounds and has quite a lot of speed to go along with his size. The Buckeyes would love to get some depth in the backfield.

While Ohio State did get a couple of running backs in last year’s recruiting class, you can never have enough backs. We saw that a couple of years ago when injuries decimated the Buckeyes to the point where Xavier Johnson had to play running back. Davison not only would add depth but he’s got a chance to be an impact player in a few years.

Signing Day for 2025 is so far away so things can still change. NIL will certainly be a factor in where Davison decides to go. Ohio State should have a new running backs coach hired by the end of the week, so that might expedite the decision that Davison makes once that hire becomes official.

We’ll have to see how the recruiting continues with him in the next few weeks. The Buckeyes have two great running backs right now. How Kelly uses those backs this season might be a big factor in whether or not Davison goes to Ohio State.
