The Ohio State football team hasn’t added any players from the Spring transfer portal. Quite frankly, they haven’t really even pursued any. They have only had players leave for the portal. The Buckeyes haven’t lost any starters or guys who were projected to get a lot of playing time this season, or even next.
Still, the Buckeyes have lost some depth in key positions. They just lost an offensive lineman this morning. The transfer portal closed on Tuesday night. One more player entered the portal right before it did. Nigel Glover, a linebacker from the 2023 recruiting class, decided to put his name in at the last second.
The Ohio State football team loses a player in the transfer portal
Glover was a four-star prospect coming out of high school and was the seventh-highest-rated prospect in the state of Ohio. He becomes the sixth player to leave in the Spring window. Glover must have seen the writing on the wall in terms of playing time in the next few years. He wanted to go somewhere else with more playing time.
I can’t blame Glover for wanting that. He is still a player that can help some other program. He’s still very talented as a linebacker, he just needs an opportunity to fight for some playing time. He wasn’t going to get that in Columbus. That’s especially true with three more linebackers coming in the 2025 recruiting class next season.
The Buckeyes won’t miss Glover that much, but it’s never ideal to see someone leave in the portal. They lose a piece of depth that they liked. I’m sure they wish nothing but the best for Glover moving forward, no matter where he ends up. My guess is that he ends up with a G5 program that has a clearer path towards playing time in the next couple of seasons.
