The first Ohio State football player was drafted on Thursday night when Marvin Harrison Jr. was taken fourth overall by the Arizona Cardinals. He was always going to be the first Buckeye taken. He ended up being the first non-QB taken in the Draft. When you look at his traits and see his production, that makes sense.
Harrison Jr. should fit the Cardinals well. He immediately becomes the best receiver they have on the roster. Now that he knows where he is going, the attention turns to the other Buckeyes. Who is the next guy from the Ohio State football team to get drafted? Will they get taken in the second round or the third round?
Mike Hall is likely to be the next Ohio State football player drafted
I think Mike Hall is the next Buckeye to be drafted. He’s a solid defensive tackle who gets a lot of push up the middle and is able to take down quarterbacks when he gets that push. He’s decent at stopping the run too. One issue he has is that he’s short. He doesn’t quite have the length of a prototypical defensive tackle.
Hall makes up for that with his strength. His bull rush is such a powerful move that he can just push guards right back into the pocket and he sheds them on his way to the quarterback. I tend to think that he will end up being a late second-round pick. Any team that needs interior help on defense should keep an eye on him.
The only other Ohio State football player who could get taken ahead of him is Cade Stover. His poor blocking on the outside is a big negative against him though. I think he ends up going in the third round. I do think an offense that needs a pass-catcher up the middle will draft him. He can still work on the blocking issues.
A lot more Buckeyes are about to realize their dreams in the next couple of days. While there might not be more than two taken in the second round, the third round will get some. Saturday will see more Buckeyes taken, especially on defense. In all, I expect at least seven Buckeyes to be drafted.
