While the Ohio State men won’t be playing in the NCAA Tournament this year, the Ohio State women’s basketball team is. In fact, they are a two-seed in this year’s tournament. They could have been a number-one seed had they not lost back-to-back games to end the year. The loss to Maryland is really what did it.

At any rate, the Buckeyes are still a really good team. One bit of good news is that they stayed out of South Carolina’s side of the bracket. They are the number-one overall seed and are undefeated. They are the favorites to win the national championship. Other than that, the Buckeyes didn’t get a favorable draw.

The Ohio State women’s basketball team has a hard path to the Final Four

While OSU gets to avoid the Gamecocks until a potential showdown in the national championship, they do get two teams they played in the NCAA Tournament last season. They might have to take on both Virginia Tech and UConn if they are able to win a couple of games. That’s not ideal for a Buckeye team that is coming into the tournament after two losses.

The Buckeyes play their first game on Thursday at noon against Maine on ESPN. If they win that game, they take on the winner of 7th-seeded Duke and 10th-seeded Richmond. After those two games, things get tough if they are able to get those victories. Things should be tough though. It’s March Madness!

This Ohio State women’s basketball team is still more than capable of winning a national title. It’s unlikely that Cotie McMahon is going to go 3/17 in a game again while missing nine layups. She is going to be better when the lights are bright, as she was last season. She’s the key to this team making a Final Four.

I’m sure Kevin McGuff has been making sure this team comes in more prepared than they did against Maryland. That kind of game won’t happen again.
