The Ohio State football team was one win away from making the Big Ten Championship. They would likely have won that game and then made the College Football Playoff. Instead, they fell to Michigan in the last game of the season. It was a disappointing end to what was once a promising season.

Kyle McCord had a shot to be an Ohio State football legend. He was trying to lead a game-winning drive at the end of the game. Instead, he threw an interception on the final play for the Buckeyes. That ended up being the last pass he would throw as a member of the Buckeyes because he transferred to Syracuse shortly after.

Kyle McCord says the Ohio State football team told him to transfer

McCord entered the portal despite losing just one game as a starter. Speaking on the NoDestination Podcast, his side of the story is quite different than what I had heard. According to him, he was told by Ryan Day that Ohio State was moving in a different direction and it was best for him to leave. Take a look at the clip below.

According to McCord, he was unsure where he was going to land after his meeting with Day. It sounds like he never wanted to leave the Buckeyes. That’s a different version of events than what was told shortly after he left. Everyone around Columbus heard that it was his dad who wanted a guarantee that McCord was going to be the starter next year. Day said no, so McCord entered the portal.

Who knows what the true story is? It doesn’t really matter at this point. The Ohio State football team has Will Howard now and McCord is at Syracuse. We’ll see which of the two has a better season.
